Old Oyo National Park

About

Old Oyo National Park covers 2,512 square kilometers of Guinea savanna in Oyo State, encompassing the ruins of the ancient Oyo-Ile capital of the Oyo Empire. The park supports populations of bushbuck, kob, roan antelope, baboons, and over 200 bird species. The River Ogun and its tributaries flow through the park, creating riparian forests. The combination of archaeological heritage (including the Alaafin's palace ruins and city walls) with wildlife conservation makes it a uniquely dual-purpose protected area.
