Jos Plateau Highlands

About

The Jos Plateau is a highland region in central Nigeria with an average elevation of 1,200 meters, giving it a temperate climate unique in tropical West Africa. The plateau is home to the Nok civilization (dating to c. 1000 BCE), which produced some of the earliest known terracotta sculptures in sub-Saharan Africa. The area's distinctive rock formations, waterfalls, and tin-mining heritage make it a landscape of both geological and cultural significance.
