Niger Delta Mangrove Ecosystem

About

The Niger Delta mangrove ecosystem is the largest in Africa and the third largest in the world, spanning over 70,000 square kilometers across nine states. This complex network of creeks, rivers, and mangrove forests supports extraordinary biodiversity and the livelihoods of fishing communities. The Ijaw, Itsekiri, Urhobo, and other Niger Delta peoples have developed unique cultures intimately connected to this waterlogged landscape, navigating by canoe and building settlements on stilts.
