About

The Shere Hills rise to 1,829 meters near Jos in Plateau State, forming one of the most prominent highland landscapes in Nigeria. The area features dramatic granite inselbergs, seasonal waterfalls, and unique montane grassland ecosystems. The hills are of geological significance as part of the Jos Plateau Younger Granite complex, formed approximately 160 million years ago. The Berom and Anaguta peoples have sacred sites in the hills and consider certain peaks as dwelling places of ancestral spirits.
