About

The Ojude Oba ("Before the King's Palace") festival is an annual Ijebu-Yoruba celebration held in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, on the third day after Eid al-Kabir. Age groups (regberegbe) compete in elaborate displays of horsemanship, drumming, and coordinated dance. The festival, dating to the 19th century, features distinctive Ijebu drumming traditions including bata and dundun ensembles. It gained UNESCO recognition in 2024 as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
