Values & Governance Seat

Jukun Aku Uka Council (Wukari)

About

The Aku Uka of Wukari is the paramount ruler of the Jukun people in Taraba State, presiding over one of the oldest kingdoms in central Nigeria. The Jukun Kwararafa confederacy was a major political power from the 14th to 18th centuries, rivaling the Hausa states and Borno Empire. The Aku Uka's council combined sacral kingship with a system of titled officials who administered justice, collected tributes, and managed inter-ethnic diplomacy. The institution embodies the Jukun philosophy that legitimate authority requires both spiritual sanction and communal consent.
