About
The Etsu Nupe (King of Nupe) council in Bida, Niger State, is the seat of the Nupe Kingdom's traditional governance. The Nupe developed a centralized administrative system with district heads (Kpotun) and a council of state (Ndzuwafu) that advised the monarch on judicial and policy matters. The Bida Emirate, established after the Fulani jihad absorbed the Nupe Kingdom in the early 19th century, blended Nupe administrative traditions with Islamic jurisprudence, creating a distinctive hybrid governance system.
