About

Ondo town in Ondo State is associated with some of the earliest cocoa cultivation in Nigeria, dating to the 1880s when Chief Squiss Banigo brought cocoa seeds from Fernando Po. Nigeria became the world's largest cocoa producer by the 1960s, and the crop transformed the economy of southwestern Nigeria. Ondo State remains one of the leading cocoa-producing regions.
