Awka in Anambra State is historically renowned as the center of Igbo metalworking tradition. The Awka blacksmiths (Ụzụ Awka) were itinerant craftsmen who traveled across southeastern Nigeria producing agricultural tools, weapons, and ceremonial objects. Their guild system and technical knowledge were passed down through apprenticeship lineages spanning centuries.
