About

The New Yam Festival (Iri Ji Ọhụụ or Iwa Ji) is one of the most important cultural celebrations in Igboland, marking the end of the farming season and the beginning of the harvest. Umuahia and surrounding communities in Abia State hold elaborate festivals featuring communal eating, masquerade performances, and offerings to the earth goddess Ala.
