Tiv Sesame & Beniseed Farmlands (Gboko)

About

The Gboko area in Benue State — Nigeria's "Food Basket" — is the epicenter of sesame (beniseed) cultivation by Tiv farmers. Nigeria is one of the world's largest sesame producers, and Benue State accounts for the majority of national output. Beniseed is used in Tiv cuisine to prepare soups, roasted snacks, and the fermented condiment ogiri-igala. The crop represents a living agricultural heritage tied to Tiv identity and the fertile Benue Valley.
