First Storey Building in Nigeria (Badagry)

About

The first multi-storey building in Nigeria was constructed in Badagry in 1845 by Reverend Henry Townsend of the Church Missionary Society (CMS). Built in the Brazilian-returnee architectural style, it served as a mission house and became a symbol of early Western architectural influence in West Africa. The building combines European structural techniques with tropical design adaptations and is preserved as a heritage landmark.
