About

Wukari, the historic capital of the Kwararafa (Jukun) confederation, contains one of the earliest sites of Islamic practice in central Nigeria. The Jukun people had contact with Islam through trans-Saharan trade and the Borno Empire, creating a unique syncretic tradition blending Islamic elements with the traditional Jukun religion centered on the divine kingship of the Aku Uka.
