Afin Oyo (Alaafin Palace)

About

The Alaafin's Palace (Afin) in Oyo town is the architectural seat of the Alaafin, the paramount ruler of the old Oyo Empire, once the most powerful Yoruba state. The current palace in new Oyo was established after the collapse of Old Oyo (Oyo-Ile) in the 1830s. The compound features traditional Yoruba palace architecture with multiple courtyards (agbala), carved veranda posts (opo), and reception halls that reflect the hierarchical social organization of the Yoruba kingdom.
