Ogbomoso Palace (Soun of Ogbomoso)

About

The Soun's Palace in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, is one of the largest traditional Yoruba palace complexes in Nigeria. Established in the 17th century when Ogbomoso was founded as a war camp, the palace features traditional impluvium-style courtyards (impluvium being the Yoruba akodi system with central open-air space), carved kobi posts, and a series of reception halls. The palace demonstrates the evolution of Yoruba royal architecture from its military-camp origins to a permanent seat of governance.
