Badagry Coconut Heritage Belt

About

The Badagry coastal strip in Lagos State is renowned for its extensive coconut palm groves, introduced during the transatlantic trade era and cultivated commercially since the 19th century. The coconut economy sustains generations of Egun and Awori communities who produce coconut oil, coconut candy (kokoro agbon), and fresh coconut water. The groves also serve as living markers of Badagry's layered history as a trade port and agricultural settlement.
