About

The site where, according to Yoruba cosmology, Oduduwa descended from heaven and created dry land from primordial water. Ile-Ife is locally referred to as "Ifẹ̀ Ọ̀ọ̀dáyé" — the cradle of existence. This is the point where Ọ̀run (heaven) and Ayé (earth) are believed to have first touched.
