About

The Point of No Return in Badagry marks the location where enslaved Africans took their final steps on African soil before being transported across the Atlantic. The site includes the Brazilian Baracoon (slave pen), the Spirit Attenuation Well, and the Door of Return monument. Badagry served as one of the major slave ports on the West African coast, with an estimated 550,000 enslaved Africans passing through between 1518 and 1885. The site now serves as a memorial and museum.
